Beauty Baking Soda For Beauty: How A Simple Household Ingredient Can Do So Much

Baking soda is a common household staple that we've grown up seeing, being used for a variety of things. It keeps the air clean, removes bad odour from dark nooks and crannies of our house, and generally serves as a great cleansing agent. However, baking soda's functions are not limited to this. It is very useful in our skincare and bath routine, making it a beauty staple that can do a lot, without us having to spend a lot. Read on to find out some of the uses of baking soda.

For at-home pedicures

Adding baking soda to a bucket of warm water is still the most beautifully simple foot soaks. Baking soda helps deodorize feet and get rid of dirt and germs. The next time your feet need a pick-me-up after a long day of wearing closed shoes, and you're out of bath salts, try this. We also recommend adding some lavender or peppermint essential oils for fragrance.

As a blackhead remover

Baking soda is an inexpensive physical scrub for dead skin on any part of your body. But it is especially great for removing blackheads on oily skin. Scrub your skin gently with it, but take your time. It will smoothen and exfoliate skin easily, removing grit and grime at the same time. Just remember that baking soda particles are quite large, and can hurt if you aren't gentle with your skin.

To whiten teeth

Using baking soda on your teeth every day can be too abrasive and lead to gum bleeding, but once in a while, it is okay to use baking soda to whiten your teeth. You can always just use it with a toothbrush, or mix it with toothpaste. But a fun way to do it is to apply baking soda on the chopped crown of a strawberry, after slicing off the leafy portion on top. The seeds of the strawberry help clean teeth, and the baking soda helps whiten them, leading to beautiful pearlies.

As a shampoo intensifier for oily hair

Using baking soda as dry shampoo can help soak up the grease in your hair, yes. But did you know that you can intensify the cleansing power of your shampoo with a pinch of baking soda? So, if your hair feels particularly greasy and your shampoo does not remedy that, don't throw it away just yet. Add some baking soda, and see how well it rinses your hair.

In a DIY deodorant recipe

If you have sensitive skin, then mixing coconut oil, baking soda, and essential oils, and applying it, can help keep bad odour at bay. The ratio of mixing should be one and a half tablespoons of baking soda, in one-third cup of coconut oil. You can add essential oils as per your preference. This is great because it is chemical free and gentle.
